Zoraida Sambolin born as Zoraida Senoba Sambolin is an American television journalist. She is the former host of Early Start on CNN and anchored news broadcasts for local affiliates WMAQ-TV (NBC) and WSNS-TV.
Zoraida Sambolin Biography
From 1999 TO 2002, she created and hosted Small Talk for Parents on PBS station WYCC-TV and hosted Nuestros Niños on Telemundo affiliate WSNS-TV.
She joined Chicago NBC affiliate WMAQ-TV in 2002 as a freelance weekend news anchor and later joined WSNS-TV the as a reporter and anchor in 2003, becoming the first Chicago on-air broadcaster to work at both English and Spanish-language stations. She launched the weekly health and family series Nuestra Familia while in WSNS. She was promoted to weekday host anchor of NBC 5 News Today at 4:30 am in 2007, alongside Rob Elgas. The program set a trend in Chicago and other major markets across the United States.
She hosted Un Buen Doctor, a weekly medical series focusing on health issues affecting Latinos airing on cable stations internationally. She left WMAQ in November 2011 to co-anchor CNN’s morning program Early Start alongside Ashleigh Banfield. On December 13, 2013, she signed off from Early Start stating to join her children and to be closer to family in the Chicago area. She rejoined WMAQ as co-anchor of NBC 5 News Today on n April 23, 2014, and co-anchors alongside Stefan Holt.

She announced on May 2013 that, she has breast cancer and would be getting a double mastectomy on May 28, 2013. The disease was discovered after a routine mammogram. She appeared to have fibrocystic breast tissue and a history of a suspicious mammogram, with a double mastectomy on the recommendation of her radiologists. She was found to have Stage I cancer in her left breast and lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) in her right one. She underwent surgery and is cancer-free!
