Vik Adhopia Biography

Adhopia is a Canadian journalist currently serving as the senior reporter with the Health Unit at CBC News. He joined the news team back in 2015. Vik’s career began in the national radio newsroom in Toronto in 1995, and his reporting has taken him from coast to coast to coast – with a brief stop in the prairies. In 1997, he moved to Iqaluit where he told Canadians stories about Nunavut as it was on the threshold of becoming the country’s newest territory. His stories from Greenland took a comparative look at how the Inuit there have attempted to achieve self-reliance after gaining semi-autonomy from Denmark two decades earlier.

In Prince George, Vik’s stories about a critical doctor shortage in northern British Columbia won him a Jack Webster Award, one of the top awards for journalism in B.C. In Vancouver, he reported on the Air India trial, the missing women’s investigation and on the 2004 floods, which earned him a Radio Television Digital News Association Award. Vik then moved to the other extreme of the country to continue work as a senior reporter based in St. John’s, NL where his network stories on the breast cancer testing scandal earned him another RTDNA award. He followed his interest in health sciences reporting back to Toronto where he’s been working with the Health Unit since 2015. 

Vik holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in political science from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Applied Arts in journalism from Ryerson University. He is married and has a son.
