Verne Lundquist Biography
Verne Lundquist is an American sportscaster who is known for broadcasting American football, basketball, golf updates on ABS Sports News. Verne is also a graduate from Austin High School in Texas. He was one of the co-founders of the Omega Tau Fraternity in 1958 before graduating in 1962.
Verne is the current member of the Board of Regents for his alma mater. Verne has also studied at Augustana Seminary in Rock Island, Illinois in 1962. Verne’s father was a Lutheran pastor and President of the Nebraska Synod of the Augustana Lutheran Church. He played basketball and baseball at WOC, Davenports, Iowa.
After finishing his studies, Verne began his broadcasting career as a sports anchor for WFAA in Dallas. He was also the radio voice of the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network in 1967. Verne remained with the team until the 1984 season. From there Verne was paired up with Brad Sham. He was then given a chance to be a sportscaster at WFAA during their 6 pm news.
Before he became a nationwide sports commentator, Verne served as a commentator for Boling for Dollars a sports show from 1970-1974. The show aired from weekday evenings on the ABC station WFAA-TV.
