Van Jones born Anthony Kapel Jones is an American Attorney, commentator,and political activist. He studied at Jackson Central-Merry High School, a public high school in his hometown where he graduated in 1986. He received his B.S. in communication and political science from the University of Tennessee at Martin.

He moved to Connecticut to attend Yale Law School. In 1992, he was among the law students selected by the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights to serve as legal observers in the trial of four officers charged with attacking Rodney King. In 1993, he graduated from law school with his Juris Doctor, also known as Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree, he moved to San Francisco and became a revolutionary.
He was President Barack Obama’s Special Advisor for Green Jobs, as a co-host of CNN’s political debate show Crossfire and as a prominent visiting fellow at Princeton University. He is the president of the Dream Corps and is among activists featured in 13th.
He was recognized as a “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum in 2004. He was ranked by the fast Company as one of the “12 Most Creative Minds in 2008”.In 2009, he was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. In 2010, he received the NAACP President’s award.
He is a co-founder of several nonprofit organizations, like the Dream Corps. He is the author of Rebuild the Dream and The Green Collar Economy, both ranking as New York Times bestselling books. He is a regular CNN contributor and host of The Van Jones Show.
