She was previously a co-host of the Six O’Clock News, which she co-hosted with George Alagiah starting in January 2003. She has previously co-hosted BBC Breakfast with Jeremy Bowen since the show’s inception in October 2000.

Sophie began her career as a reporter for Greater Manchester Radio after joining the BBC regional trainee scheme in 1992.

Sophie arrived in Brussels in April 1994 to work as a Europe correspondent for the regions.

She returned to BBC Look North in Leeds in May 1995, where she initially presented the news while also continuing to report and create it.

Sophie joined the BBC Breakfast News team in 1997 and co-hosts the show four days a week.

She has hosted the show from Los Angeles on Oscar night, Israel, and Washington during the impeachment trial of Bill Clinton.
