Oake is a Gemini Award-winning Canadian sportscaster for CBC Sports, Sportsnet, and Hockey Night in Canada. He joined sportsnet in June 2014. The Sydney native brings 40 years of broadcast experience, including a 20 years experience with Hockey Night in Canada to his role.

Sott began his career in broadcasting as a volunteer at a Memorial University radio station while studying pre-medicine at the St. John’s, Newfoundland campus.  Drawn to a career in sports media, he worked at CBC-St. John’s in radio and television before being hired full-time in 1974. He joined CBC Winnipeg in 1975, where he worked as a sports anchor onthe one-hour news program, 24 Hours. In 1979, he started contributing to CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts, and joined the program as a full-time reporter during the 1996-97 NHL season.

In addition to his work with Hockey Night in Canada, Oake hosted the CFL on CBC from 1988 to 1996, and has covered a multitude of international sporting events, including 12 Olympic Games, the NHL, CFL, Calgary Stampede, and much more. In 2003, he received a Gemini Award for Best Host or Interviewer in a Sports Program or Sportscast for his exclusive interview with NHL legend Brett Hull.
