Sarah Westwood is a British composer originally from Cornwall. She is known as a White House reporter for the Washington Examiner and for covering local governments for the Marietta (Ga.) Daily Journal.

She attended George Washington University and she graduated in the fellowship program of the National Journalism Center. She is currently learning music at Bangor University and also taking a PhD in Composition at the Goldsmiths, University of London.
She begun learning piano from the age of six with Paul Comeau in Truro. In Cornwall. She studied piano performance and improvisation at Trinity College of Music, London in 2008 to 2009, with Raymond Banning and Douglas Finch. At Trinity, she developed an interest in creative writing and artistic collaborations across artforms.
From 2009 to 2012, she took Music and Creative Studies at Bangor University, where she became more involved in composing music, being encouraged by Andrew Lewis, Peter Flinn, Patricia Alessandrini and Guto Puw. In 2012-13, she completed an MA in Music there. Working with Xenia Pestova during her MA at Bangor, she developed an interest in folk stories and nature that have since fed into her compositions.
In 2015, she was a Visiting Composition Scholar at the University of California San Diego and in 2016, a graduate student in Theory and Analysis of Contemporary Music at the Eastman School of Music. To support her study in the USA, she was awarded the Bliss Trust Scholarship. She has since been doctoral student in composition at Goldsmiths, University of London from 2015.
She has taken place in many of artistic residencies and collaborative artistic projects including working with dancers Eleven Farrer House and artist/architect Moses Hacmon with collaborations as a composer for Phoenix Dance Theatre’s ‘CCLAB’, and a musician for Xavier Leroy’s ‘In Vivo Danse’, Pompidou Centre, as part of Ircam Academy.
She is also a guest artist and an event coordinator for Estalagem’s Contemporary Music and Electronic Residency. She has participated as a composer ‘Illuminate – shining a light on the works of women composers and performers,’ an inaugural touring concert series. She wrote a solo piece for amplified flute called Shiko and a piece for guitar and violin called another dance for the concert series. She has also worked on Fox News.
