Rita Garcia Fox 11

Rita Garcia is the latest addition to Fox LA. Rita was a morning anchor at our sister station Fox 26 in Houston, Texas.

Rita is an early bird, so while many folks are asleep, she’s is working to gather the latest news and up to the minute details by the time your alarm goes off. A social media enthusiast, she stays in touch with her loyal viewers 24/7.

Most recently, Rita covered the Houston Astros vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers for all seven games of the 2017 World Series. In August 2017, she covered Hurricane Harvey as it devastated Houston, Texas. She was also part of the wall-to-wall 10 day coverage of Super Bowl 51 on Fox. While in Houston, Rita was very active in her community. She was constantly hosting and emceeing events for various non profit organizations in the city of Houston.

Garcia moved to Houston from Los Angeles, CA. where she reported for the largest duopoly in southern California, KCBS/KCAL. She covered hard news and interviewed her fair share of entertainers like Justin Bieber. Some of her most memorable coverage included the death of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett, the Royal couple’s visit to the United States, and the 2009 Lakers Championship. Rita also reported and experienced her first EARTHQUAKE while living in the San Fernando Valley and was part of team coverage on the deadliest wildfire in SoCal’s history, the “station fire”.

During her tenure in California, she was honored with the prestigious “Tracy Miller Merit Award” for her dedication and passion to journalism. The award was presented to Garcia by the Alliance for Women in Media (AWM), an organization in LA hosts the Genii Awards every year to highlight those in media. This inspired her to continue to devote her time to journalism organizations in the Texas area like the Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals (HAHMP) and she continues to be an active member in the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

The Texas native began her career in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas, where she investigated some of the most prevalent issues we face today; including border security, immigration and Mexico’s drug war. Garcia’s strong passion for storytelling and reporting the facts have allowed her to continue to pursue unique and groundbreaking stories that keep her viewers coming back for more.

When Rita’s not on the set, she enjoys cooking and often posts her recipes on her blog at theritagarcia.com. She’s also certified in scuba diving, enjoys working out, movie popcorn, country music and adores her rescue dog, Rocky (a native LA pup).
