Bentley is an American journalist from Grand Rapids, Michigan currently working as a Statistics Analyst for ESPN Television since January of 2020.
He brings his experience in playing to viewers and has served as a college football analyst for ESPN. He played linebacker in the NFL for six seasons (1986-1991) with the Buffalo Bills and one year with the Cincinnati Bengals in 1992. In addition, he has worked for Fox Sports from 1998-2001 as an NFL analyst and a play-by-play announcer.
Ray has, in addition, worked as a general manager and head coach of the Arena Football League’s Buffalo Destroyers from the year 2000-2002 before returning to the network ranks as an NBC analyst for AFL games from 2003-2006
The year 2007 saw him serve as a play-by-play commentator for Buffalo Bills preseason games on the Bills Television Network, as well as ESPN’s coverage of the AFL.
He also played the linebacker position for Central Michigan University from 1979-1982 where he studied English literature. Bentley left Central Michigan one semester early to join the USFL, where he played for the Michigan Panthers from 1983-1985 before moving onto the NFL ranks.
Currently, he resides in Grandville, Michigan. There, he coaches the Pee Wee league Grandville Dinosaurs football team that went undefeated in 2007. In addition, he has written and published several children’s books that feature Darby the Dinosaur and Bubba Gator. This includes Darby’s Christmas Adventure, No More Hiccups, Shopping with Darby, Nobody said Happy Birthday, The Great Gator Princess, and Naptime for Darby.
