Peter Wilkins Biography

Wilkins is an Australian presenter, commentator, and reporter on both television and radio. He has worked for the national broadcaster for the last 28 years. He presents the national sports segment on ABC TV News. Previously, he hosted the World Cup soccer finals coverage for ABC TV in 1982 and 1986. In addition, he served as ABC’s chief rugby league commentator for nine years from 1992–2000 and represented ABC radio as a commentator at the Sydney Olympics. He has also contributed to  The 7.30 Report and Lateline and is a regular columnist for the Illawarra Mercury newspaper.

He commentated sports across his career such as golf, soccer, cricket, rugby league, hockey, and also has been a regular member of ABC TV’s Hopman Cup tennis coverage for the past seven years.

For ABC TV’s coverage of the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing, he commentated on rowing, cycling, and wheelchair rugby. Also, in 2008 Peter published his first book, “Don’t Rock The Boat” – the inside story of the Australian women’s eighth rowing final at the Athens Olympics and its emotional postscript. It was a sporting debacle that divided a nation.

Currently, Peter is the commentator for ABC TV’s coverage of the W League.  He is joined by ex Matilda Alicia Ferguson in the commentary box.
