Jimenez is an American journalist from Worcester, Massachusetts currently working as a National Correspondent for CNN based in Chicago since August of 2019

Jimenez joined CNN in 2017 as a reporter for CNN Newsource, the network’s Washington, D.C.-based affiliate service. He covered breaking news stories for CNN’s over 900 stations across the country, reporting both domestically and abroad in France and Mexico.

He reported on the ground in the aftermath of the Notre Dame Cathedral fire in Paris; from Las Vegas just hours after the bloodiest mass killing in modern American history; and from Florida and Texas during the 2017 hurricanes, which became part of CNN’s Emmy-nominated coverage.

Prior to joining CNN, Jimenez served as a reporter and fill-in anchor for WBAL-TV in Baltimore, Maryland. He was nominated for an Emmy for general assignment reporting while he was there.

He covered the trials of the cops charged in the death of Freddie Gray, was the lead story on the station’s Emmy-winning program on opioids, and wrote articles about drug influence in Maryland and the fight against child sex trafficking across the state.

Jimenez began his on-air career as a multimedia journalist for WGEM-TV in Quincy, Illinois, where he covered a wide range of topics, including the local methamphetamine trade at the time.

Omar is a proud graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University where he graduated. In addition, he also played on the varsity men’s basketball team.
