He is the son of Joseph Dubitsky and Celia Schwartz Dubitsky. He went to B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River. In 2011, the TV and publication studio in the school was named after him in his honor. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from Emerson College in Boston in 1957. He was the captain of the basketball team in Emerson. He then received a Doctor of Law, honorary degree from his alma mater in 1977. He has two daughters and a son. He also has three grandchildren.
