Woods joined FOX 5 NY in 2001 in the month of June as “Good Day New York’s” feature reporter and the weekend meteorologist. In October 2003, his reporting schedule was changed and he became the morning meteorologist on the same program. Over the years at FOX 5, Woods has been assigned to cover several major weather events that include those in the Tri-State area like blizzards, Nor’ Easters, hurricanes and heat waves.
Woods got his first job in 1993, working as the morning and noon weather anchor in Eastern North Carolina. He covered several hurricanes like Bertha and Fran in 1996 before the job ended in 1996. Between 1996 and 2001, he provided the arid forecasts in the deserts of Phoenix then went to New York for his job at FOX 5.

Woods was diagnosed with prostate cancer and confirmed the reporting May 2018. When he spoke on the illness as he shared his story with the viewers, he the cancer was diagnosed after an annual check-up and that it was an aggressive form of prostate cancer. He further revealed that his father, grandfather and uncle before him had had prostate cancer and they passed on after undergoing surgery.
