She is an award-winning veteran broadcast journalist now working as a news anchor and reporter in Los Angeles with KNBC. Previously she was an evening news anchor and reporter with the NBC and CBS affiliates in the Austin and El Paso market.
Her first stint came as a Freelance Reporter at KTSM-TV, from years 1998 to 2003, in El Paso, Texas. She covered various local, national & international news that affected border security in the context of the 9/11 attacks. By the end of her tenure, was promoted to the position of Evening News Anchor for 5, 6 and 10 pm Newscasts. In 2003, she left KTSM to join KXAN-TV as Evening News Anchor/Reporter. The job was based in Austin, Texas, US. She worked there a good five years till September 2008.
In Dec 2008, she landed the positions of News Anchor & Lifestyle Host at KEYE-TV based in Austin, Texas. She was involved in the creation, hosting and writing of Austin’s first ever award-winning magazine called ‘We are Austin Live’. It was a 1-hour show with 5 different segments ranging from in-studio interaction along with multiple guests such as authors, entertainers and politicians to on-ground live streaming to others. After a year of break from journalism, she returned as KNBC News Morning Anchor & Reporter in April 2012. The network is owned by NBC Universal Media LLC and is based in LA. She has been at KNBC ever since.

Former Austin TV news anchor Michelle Valles just hit the big time: Starting Monday, April 9, 2012, she will join NBC owned and operated KNBC in Los Angeles as co-anchor of the weekend morning, “L.A. Today” newscasts. She will also report during the week. “I never thought I’d end up here, but when I crossed the California state line, strangely it felt like home. I love the Latin community, laid back culture and open-mindedness,” Valles said.
Valles once won “Best Anchor” from the Associated Press Broadcasters of Texas when she co-anchored with Robert Hadlock at KXAN-TV (NBC). Before that, she was the main anchor in El Paso. She also launched the 4 o’clock “We Are Austin Live” show with Jason Wheeler on KEYE-TV (CBS) several years ago.
Since leaving KEYE, the UT-Austin graduate wrote a popular magazine column for ATX Man, in which she gave a “woman’s perspective” on man related topics.
