National radio personality  Baisden visits Orangeburg

New York Times bestselling author and radio personality Baisden was introduced to the Orangeburg community during a meet-and-greet hosted by WOCS 93.7 FM on July 19.

Baisden discusses current events, politics, business and relationships on The Michael Baisden Show on WOCS every day from 3-5 p.m., said Harvey Elwood, executive producer at New Perspectives Media/WOCS 93.7 FM in Orangeburg.

“My dream was to own my own radio station while having your attention-grabbing voice,” Elwood told Baisden when introducing him at the meet-and-greet at Brooklyn Restaurant next to Elwood’s old radio station.

Elwood said he decided to bring Baisden’s program to Orangeburg after meeting him at a convention.

“I had to go to Atlanta and bring Michael back. Michael is an asset to our listeners. He talks about relationships, business, about voter registration, and brings a level of awareness that other talk show hosts don’t bring,” Elwood said.

In addition to being a bestselling author, Baisden has produced three films and hosted two nationally syndicated television shows. At the July 19 event in Orangeburg, he discussed his books, “Maintenance Man II” and “Women Up” and took questions from those attending. He also signed copies of his books.

One of those who came out for the meet-and-greet was Connie Johnson of Orangeburg.

“I saw the event on Facebook, and I thought it was cool because not a lot of people come to Orangeburg,” Johnson said. “I like how he (Baisden) spent a long time speaking about relationships, but he also mentioned politics and business. He was honest and told us that it’s okay to be honest with ourselves and to expect something more out of life.”
