Slater is an Emmy award-winning and AMS Certified (CBM) Meteorologist keeping all of central Iowa ahead of the storm. She currently works at KCCI Storm Team 8 since 2006. She has also worked at Woi from 1996-2002. Her love for forecasting began the moment she saw her first tornado as a young girl growing up in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Her passion for science led her to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Iowa State University. She then assisted local colleagues in establishing the Central Iowa Chapter of the National Weather Association to improve public weather knowledge and benefit the community.
When she is not working, Slater can be found cheering on her beloved cyclones with her husband and their three children. If she ever has a spare moment, she likes to catch up with friends, do some shoe shopping or plan her next vacation getaway.
