Mary Davis Husband Illness (2013)
On July 7, 2013, Mary’s husband was admitted to a Dallas area hospital after having viral cardiomyopathy after a viral upper respiratory infection. His condition was critical as per the doctor’s observation. Three days later, Travis suffered a massive stroke after which he underwent surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.
On July 15, the same year, (2013), it was reported that Travis had woken up and was alert after undergoing brain surgery, and that his heart was pumping without the assistance of machines, and that he was on the road to recovery. Travis was then discharged from Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano, Texas on July 31, 2013, and joined a physical therapy facility.
Following his stroke, and despite therapy, Travis was not able to sing or even speak and had to rely on a cane to walk for more than a year. By November the following year (2014), Travis was slowly recovering and could walk short distances without any assistance and was also relearning how to write and play the guitar, according to his then-fiancée Mary Davis.
In the year 2016, it was reported that he had recovered his voice after a period of three years of rehabilitation including therapy, and could perform again. He attended his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame on October 16, 2016, performing a rendition of “Amazing Grace.”
Notably, in 2017, Travis had suffered permanent damage, which disabled his right hand leaving him with also a limited speech and singing ability. Travis continues to make public appearances yet no longer sings, mainly because of apprehension concerning his ability to do it as well as he used to.
Davi’s husband appeared on-stage together with Michael Ray during a cover performance of “Forever and Ever Amen” in June 2017, to which he contributed the final saying Amen. Travis did the same during his 60th birthday party, thrown by the Grand Ole Opry on May 4, the year 2019.
Mary and her husband Travis sued her ex-husband Ritchie Beougher for starting a fight in a Prestonwood Baptist church. It was said that Travis stepped in to save Davis’ daughter from being accosted by her father Ritchie and uncle, Ritchie’s brother. Travis pleads not guilty to assaulting Ritchie at the church because he was defending Davis’ daughter.
She worked as the office manager of her ex-husband at the Willow Bend Dental office.
