Mark Zinni Biography
Mark Zinni is an American anchor and reporter of WFSB. He can be seen on Eyewitness News at 5:30 with Denis D’Ascenzo and on Eyewitness News at 11 with Erin Connolly.
He returned home to Northeast Ohio and joined the FOX 8 News team in September 2009. He moved to Cleveland from Salt Lake City where he previously worked at KTVX. Prior to working in Utah, Mark spent more than six years at WPRI in Providence, Rhode Island, where he was the weekday morning news anchor and a general assignment reporter.

Mark graduated from Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin High School in 1994. He is a 1998 graduate of the School of Journalism & Mass Communication at St. Bonaventure University near Buffalo, New York.
Mark Zinni Cancer
Cancer care and treatment are personal issues for Mark. He was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in January of 2014 and had a total thyroidectomy and underwent treatment at the Cleveland Clinic. Mark’s tumor was found during a routine physical that many people, mostly men, often avoid. Since his diagnosis, he has worked to educate people about the importance of annual doctor appointments and health checks.

Mark is an Emmy and AP award winning reporter and producer. He was honored by the National Association of Television Arts & Sciences in 2003 for his role covering The Station Nightclub fire in West Warwick, Rhode Island. Mark was honored again in 2007 with Emmy nominations by the Boston chapter of NATAS for his work as both an anchor and reporter. Mark received three additional nominations from the Lower Great Lakes chapter of NATAS in 2010, for his work in Cleveland in 2009.

Mark began to appear in television in 1995 as an intern at WKYC in Cleveland and later worked as an intern at NBC’s TODAY Show in New York. Mark got his first job as a producer and reporter at WICU in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1997 and then went to work as an anchor and reporter at WTOV in Steubenville, OH.
As a journalist, Mark has traveled all over the country. Following the terrorist attacks on 9/11, he reported from New York, Pittsburgh and Washington, DC. While still new to New England, Mark reported live in February 2003 for more than 12 hours on local and network television during a fire at The Station Nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island. 100 people died and many more were injured when a fire ignited during a concert.
He has interviewed few of presidential candidates and other national politicians, the Dalai Lama and made several trips to Hollywood for entertainment news. Mark covered the American Idol finales from Los Angeles in 2004 and 2006, and was the first local reporter with a live interview with host Simon Cowell. He also traveled to L.A. to take viewers “behind the scenes” on the sets of various CBS and FOX television shows.
