Harned is an American journalist from Nelson County working with WAVE 3 News as a Chief Meteorologist where he has worked since 1998. This was after the announcement that John Belski was going to resign. This announcement was made in September 2010.

Over his working career, he has worked alongside the area’s best meteorologists: Tom Wills and John Belski, who happen to be his role models. John and Kevin met in the 7th grade where he managed to keep in touch with him until when he worked under his direction.

Harned is a proud graduate of Purdue University.

Belski says that after years of Kevin’s service to WAVE-TV it is time for him to take the lead. Kevin has the dream of making the best of weather teams in Louisville as it has been the tradition. The team ought to have accurate, dependable forecasts delivered in a personable, yet professional manner.

Harned is privileged to have been one of the youngest members of the American Meteorological Society to receive the AMS Television Broadcast Seal of Approval. Despite having a love for reporting on the weather, he has a special liking for the power of nature.

One can find him chasing tornadoes and hurricanes, standing in floods and the worst winter storms just to keep you and your family safe.

During his time at WAVE 3, he hosted WAVE 3 Listens, filled in on the anchor desk, and even delivered breaking news a time or two. Currently, he hosts Secrets of Bluegrass Chefs across the Commonwealth.

He has made numerous appearances in the public. Additionally, he uses his so-called “weird” hobby of auctioneering to benefit many local charities.

Kevin was recognized by the Nelson County Chamber of Commerce as the 2012 Man of the Year. Harned was named Best TV Weathercaster by the readers of Louisville Magazine in its annual “Best of Louisville” edition for the past seven years.

Away from work, he likes to water ski and spend time with friends and family.
