John Heilemann Trump

MSNBC commentator John Heilemann said on Monday that President Trump is “obviously racist” and condones anti-Semitism, just days after a mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue left 11 people dead and several wounded. “The president is obviously a racist, he’s obviously a demagogue,” Heilemann said on “Morning Joe.” “He obviously condones anti-Semitism, stokes up nationalist hatred.”

He made the comments after condemning Trump’s reaction to the mail bombs and suspicious packages that were sent to several prominent Democratic figures, including former President Obama and Bill and Hillary Clinton, last week. Trump said that he did not plan on calling the people who were the targets of the attempted attacks. “The president stood on the White House grounds and said I’m going to pass. That’s what he said about that. And I think that sends a signal that’s profound as anything that the president could say,” He is, a frequent critic of Trump and the Republican Party, added.

On Saturday, Robert Bowers, 46, allegedly opened fire in the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh and killed 11 congregants in what was one of the deadliest attacks on the Jewish community in American history. The attack came just a day after Cesar Sayoc Jr. was arrested and charged with five federal crimes for allegedly sending explosive devices to top Democratic figures. Trump has denounced both of the events. On Saturday, he called the shooting an “assault on humanity.

” The former president of Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue said on Monday, however, that Trump was the “purveyor of hate speech” and that he would not welcome Trump to her city, a message that was echoed by a group of progressive Jewish leaders. In response to the events of last week, several public officials have called for the cooling of what’s become increasingly heated political rhetoric.  On Monday, Trump tweeted that the anger in America is partly caused by “inaccurate, and even fraudulent, reporting of the news.”
