Jim has called the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Finals, the NHL Winter Classic, the NHL All-Star Game, and the men’s hockey tournaments at the 2006 and 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Hughson was in his sixth Stanley Cup Final in the year 2014.

In June 2014, Jim Hughson, one of Canada’s most well-known broadcasters, joined Sportsnet as the lead play-by-play announcer. From the initial puck drop of the season to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Stanley Cup Final, the veteran broadcaster, who won a Canadian Screen Award for Best Sports Play-by-Play Announcer in 2014 and 2015, continues to offer his voice to the NHL on Sportsnet.

Hughson received the prestigious Foster Hewitt Memorial Award from the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019 for his great services as a hockey announcer.

Hughson began his long career more than three decades ago as a radio announcer for the Vancouver Canucks before moving to television in 1982 as the voice of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 1987, he joined TSN’s NHL broadcast team and has since covered innumerable NHL, OHL, and CHL games, including Wayne Gretzky’s final NHL game in Canada.

Hughson also worked as a frequent play-by-play commentator for the Toronto Blue Jays, covering the team’s championship seasons in 1992 and 1993 alongside Buck Martinez.

Currently, he resides in South Surrey, British Columbia with his family.
