Jet Tila (Jet Tilakamonku)l is an American celebrity chef and restaurateur. He is currently the chef of The Charleston and Pakpao Thai. He is best known for appearing on several TV shows and cooking programs; Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, Iron Chef America, Guy’s Grocery Games, and The Best Thing I Ever Ate.
Chef Jet Tila received an accolade that no American chef had ever gotten before when he was appointed the inaugural culinary ambassador of Thai cuisine by the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Los Angeles. He made several contributions to the National Public Radio culinary program Good Food with Evan Kleiman and launched a Las Vegas-based dessert restaurant called “Kuma Snow Cream” a shaved-ice eatery. Jet Tilakamonku who is an american nationality was born to his parents Pramorte Tila and Marasri Tilakamonkul who are of Hainanese Chinese origin, in Los Angeles California in the United States of America. His parents were Thai immigrants who opened Bangkok Market in Los Angeles in 1972, which was one of the country’s first Thai groceries and importers. From the time Tila was in grade school he would work in the market. He started by sweeping the floors, then packing groceries and finally operating the butcher’s band saw. Later his family opened the first Thai restaraunt in Los Angeles and Tila would work there. He had a Cantonese grandmother and a Mexican aunt. Tila grew up in a neighborhood that was a meld of different culinary traditions, including his beloved pupusas, the traditional Salvadoran dish of thick corn tortillas stuffed with fillings like beans, cheese and minced pork.

After grad school Tila attended California Sushi Academy and Le Cordon Bleu where he completed his culinary training courses building a framework of classical French technique to match his extensive knowledge of Asian cooking.
Jet Tila is married to Allison Tila, he met Allison at Sur La Table where he was a teacher. She attended his class, but it took a year for the couple to fall in love. Tila proposed to Allison though text message and she said yes. They later got married in Las Vegas. His wife Allison is the managing partner at Team Tila in Greater Los Angeles Area and regularly helps Jet with her pastry cooking and recipes testing skills.

Jet Tila Career
While in his youthful years,Tila would teach neophytes the famous Thai balance of hot, salty, sour and sweet flavors. Later he got a job at a corporate food-service firm cooking for employees at the likes of Google and Yahoo. Chef Tila also contributed nearly two dozen articles to “The Times’ food section”. By 2008, Tila was running his first big restaurant called Wazuzu at the Encore in Las Vegas.
The exposure to Las Vegas’ celebrity chef scene eventually led him to an offer to battle Morimoto in an episode of a TV show “Iron Chef America.” He met two of his biggest influences Alton Brown and Bobby Flay who taught him how to entertain audiences on TV and he became a Food Network mainstay on shows like Cutthroat Kitchen, Chopped, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, and Iron Chef America. Chef Tila is an expert in Chinese and Thai cuisine and the executive chef at Pakpao Thai and The Charleston.
