While growing up with her sister, she went to Oil City High School. In her junior years in high school, she frequently went to the YMCA to play with the boys. Hall still holds the record for three-pointers and assists that she settled back then.
She also played as the shooting guard for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Pittsburgh Bruins. She considered turning into the referee, As her grandfather used to be a basketball coach. She went to Kent State University and graduated with a major in broadcast news and a minor in criminal justice.

In September 2004, Janelle joined WTAE-TV , a virtual channel 4 station, affiliated to ABC-television station. Her first position was as an assignment reporter but was subsequently promoted to weekend morning anchor.
Hall covered the shooting of three Pittsburgh policemen who were gruesomely murdered by heavily armed men, on the morning of April 4, 2009. Together with the morning crew, she often delivered important breaking news as well as traffic reports.
She kicked off her journalism career with her days at WFRA-FM and WRJS-FM at the age of 16. She also worked as a reporter for WNDU in South Bend, Ind. and WJET. Hall also served as an anchor for a health show on a Cleveland cable station and also anchored an educational show on PBS 45/49 in Ohio.
