Jake Burns Biography
Jake Burns is an American multimedia journalist and anchor who works for WTVR CBS 6 News in Richmond, Virginia as a reporter. He covers breaking stories, Virginia politics, consumer alerts, reports on the courts’ system and occasional animal stories as well as anchors Sundays 11 pm newscast.

Burns began working at WTVR when he got an internship opportunity in the sports department in 2010 to early 2011. He is a sports fanatic who supports the Oxford comma. After his internship programme, he went back to college and graduated. WTVR then hired him as a photojournalist.
Burns’ breakthrough at WTVR came in January 2013 when he began reporting in Richmond full-time. He has since reported on some of the biggest stories from Central Virginia, live. They include the news coverage of former Governor McDonnell’s corruption trial, the Wallops Island rocket explosion, and the shooting at the Naval Yard in DC. Burns has also reported for CBS 6 on the inauguration of President Trump, and Super Bowl 50 in San Fransisco.
In 2016, which was an election year in the U.S., Burns led CBS 6 on covering the election, reporting live from the Vice Presidential debate as well as New York City on election night. In the same year in February, Burns became a news anchor on the 11 pm Sunday newscast weekly.
He says his work is mostly a “one man band” hence, he writes, edits and shoots his own pieces on deadline. Burns is also trained to operate ENG live vehicles in the field by himself.

In the span of his career in the journalism world, Burns has won several awards for his work:
- One National Press Photographers Association regional award for a piece he did in January 2013
- Three regional Emmy awards
- In 2012, he was named as Richmond Magazine’s “Best New Face on TV”.
