J.C. Monahan started her journalism career with WZON in Bangor, Maine as News Director. She then moved to the south and began working for WPXT-TV in Portland, Maine as a weekend forecaster and entertainment reporter.
Monahan also worked as the weekend meteorologist for NECN. On April 8, 2013, Monahan announced that she would be switching meteorology position at WCVB for joining Chronicle as a permanent co-anchor.
Monahan was replaced by former WFXT meteorologist, Cindy Fitzgibbon in the department of the weather. Fitzgibbon joined WCVB in April 2013.
Fitzgibbon began her permanent position on NewsCenter 5, EyeOpener on May 20, 2012, and Monahan continued to forecast for NewsCenter 5 Midday.
On February 19, 2017, WCVB announced that Monahan would leave the network and her contract would not be renewed. In June 2017, she began working for WBTS as a newscaster.

The WCVB-TV once lined up one of its newcomers to replace longtime anchor Susan Wornick for the midday news program when she retires at the end of the month.
