Black is a Canadian journalist who worked as a meteorologist for CBC Canada where he has worked since 1989.

Black, then six years old, sat on his front porch with his mother, watching an incoming thunderstorm. He was so taken aback by what he saw that he went to the library on his own and read everything about thunderstorms he could find. When a storm approached the next time, he advised his mother to stay inside because it was not safe to be outside with lightning. The Canadian Metrological and Oceanographic Society has endorsed Black as the only weather forecaster in Ottawa (in fact, he was the first broadcaster ever endorsed).

He is a hockey dad who worked as a substitute teacher at almost every high school in the town before becoming Ottawa’s trusted individual for accurate forecasts. He’s a self-described weather nerd who is especially enthused about how technology has caught up to how he imagined weather forecasting 20 years ago.

Asides his work as a forecaster with CBC, he gives regular updates on the CBO-FM program All in a Day. Among his televised content includes a “Weather Watchers’ Club.” Here, volunteers from communities surrounding Ottawa submit their current temperatures and conditions, which are superimposed on a map. The year 2007 saw him visit local elementary schools to talk to children about weather and answer their questions. This includes highlights appearing on his daily broadcasts.
