Hala Gorani is a Syrian-American anchor and senior correspondent for CNN International, based in London. She now anchors CNN’s Hala Gorani Tonight at 9 p.m CET. She was born on March 1st, 1970 in Seattle, Washington, USA.
She was mainly raised in Paris, France. She has also lived in Algeria. She attended George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia near Washington DC and earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics. She also graduated from the Institut d’études politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris in 1995. From 2004 to 2014, she was based in CNN center in Atlanta Georgia until last year when she moved back to London. Gorani is married to German CNN photojournalist, Christian Streib, on June 14th, 2015 in Jardin Marjorelle, Morocco.

She joined CNN in 1998 as an anchor for its International’s European breakfast show, CNN Today. She has also reported in several middle east countries. She was one of the reporters who were on the ground in Amman, Jordan after the Al Qaeda suicide bombers attacked two hotels. In 2005, she was covering the Israel’s Unilateral disengagement plan from Gaza.
She also covered the 2006 Lebanon-Israel War in Lebanon. This earned CNN an Edward R. Murrow Award. She also led the coverage of the French presidential elections in 2002 and 2007. She was awarded a News and Documentary Emmy for the coverage of the 2011 Egyptian revolution that led to the ouster of the country’s then president, Hosni Mubarak.
She was in Paris covering the January Chyarlie Hebdo shooting and the November ISIS attack. She received the highest honors in International Journalism at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival in 2010 after covering the 2010 Haiti earthquake. In 2015, she was awarded an honorary doctorate by George Mason University and she then delivered the commencement address to that year’s graduation students. She then was a principal member of the extensive CNN team that covered the Live action, aftermath and investigation of terrorist in Paris, France. In this incidence, 130 people were killed.
