Gretchen Mol is an actress and former American model who is known for appearing in the series Boardwalk Empire. Other films she is known by include: Manchester by the Sea (2016), 3:10 to Yuma (2007), The Notorious Bettie Page (2005), The Thirteenth Floor (1999), Celebrity (1998) and Rounders (1998).
She is also a national spokesperson for the PMD Foundation in the U.S., an organization that funds research and awareness of Pelizaeus–Merzbacher disease. She joined the cause soon after one of her cousins passed on from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”).

From Connecticut, Gretchen is the daughter of Janet Morgan, an artist and teacher and a father who taught at RHAM High School. She has one sibling: a brother by the name Jim Mol who is a film director and editor.
She went to The American Musical and Dramatic Academy and later worked as an usher at Angelika Film Center after graduating from the William Esper Studio. She was discovered while she worked at Michael’s Restaurant in New York.

She began acting in Vermont in summer stock theatre with a couple of roles like Godspell and 110 in the Shade. She got spotted and photographed by photographer David William Powell in New York’s Central Park in 1994 and within weeks, she had a job offer to appear on the cover of W. She also foreshadowed her “It Girl” and “Bettie Page” looks and soon got into a brief modeling then became a full-time actress.
Her film debut was in Spike Lee’s Girl 6 (1996) film. She was later cast in The Funeral (1996) and New Rose Hotel (1998) after her performance in Girl 6 was noticed.
In 1998, she had roles in films like Rounders with Matt Damon, Celebrity alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and was featured on the cover of Vanity Fair, and dubbed the “It Girl of the Nineties” by the magazine. She had a minor role in Sweet and Lowdown (1999) and a female lead role in film The Thirteenth Floor.
In Heavy Put-Away (2003), she played the role of a victim of a con artist while in 2006, her character in Puccini for Beginners, had a lesbian affair. In 2007 and 2008, she had roles in the films; An American Affair, 3:10 to Yuma, and Tenure.
Her work in TV began when she appeared in a Coca-Cola commercial and soon had a small role in the miniseries Dead Man’s Walk (1996) as Maggie Tilton. She also starred in the short-lived 2002 series Girls Club. She made a Hallmark Hall of Fame television movie in January 2007, starring in The Valley of Light, a story set in post-World War II based on a novel by Terry Kay. Other TV series that Mol has appeared in include Calm at Sunset in 1996, The Memory Keeper’s Daughter in April 2008, Life on Mars as Annie and Seven Seconds (2018) by Netflix as attorney Sam Henessy.
