She is a recognized “geek culture” personality in fandom circles. She often serves as a panelist, moderator and panel host at major pop culture conventions and events nationwide including WonderCon, New York Comic Con, Comic Con International, and SXSW.

She is a member of Broadcast Film Critics and is a participant in The Critics Choice Awards. She is the Senior Movie Editor for Rotten Tomatoes, and co-hosts their Sirius Radio program.

Drake also works as a film critic for Movies.com, Fandango, and appears on CNN to do movie review segments and report on entertainment industry events, such as the Oscars.

Before her journalism career, Drake worked in many facets of the entertainment industry. Previously, she worked behind the camera for ABC, Motion Theory, Oceangate Productions, and Prometheus Productions.

She has also produced, appeared in, and is credited for video editing work on a variety of projects for film and television, including Ancient Aliens, How to Look Good Naked with Carson Kressley, and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

She is became popular in the “geek community” and coupled with her work in the entertainment industry led to a successful self-start in podcasting.

In 2004, Drake founded and hosted a weekly movie podcast called The Popcorn Mafia which ran for over 8 years, and included notable guests such as Andy Dick, Diablo Cody, Max Landis, Ahmed Best (aka. Jar-Jar Binks), and James Marsden.
