Formerly known as Android Pay, the app has had a branding change and some polish, but with a new face, it’s still the same app. If you have an existing Android Pay account, you don’t have to worry — all of your saved cards will be transferred to your new Google Pay account, and you won’t have to do anything to set up it.
But what if you’re new to Google Pay and the first time you need to set up your account? We also covered you there. It’s fast and easy to set up Google Pay account and once you’re done, you can get right down to what’s really important: retail therapy.

How to set up Google Pay

Google Pay will greet you and ask on your Google Pay account which of your connected Google accounts you want to use. It will take you through the stages of receiving signed credit card on your account.
Hit the Add a Card button, and if you have a card already assigned to your account, Google will alert you and offer you the option to add a new card. If you don’t have any existing cards attached to your account (for example, from the Google Play Store) or you want to add a new card, you will be taken straight to the options for adding the card.
You can choose how to add your card from here. Google Pay gives you the opportunity to simply view your card through the camera with the app and add the details automatically. Otherwise, by entering the card number, expiry date, and CVC (card verification code) you can add the card yourself.
You will then be asked to accept the terms of service, either by calling your bank or by text message, before verifying your details. Enter the verification code (or let it autofill for you by Google) and you’re ready to go.

How to use Google Pay

Using Google Pay on your smartphone

It’s as easy to use Google Pay — if not easier — as setting up your account. Just keep an eye out for the Android Pay or Google Pay symbol as long as your phone has NFC (near field communications), you will be able to use your phone like contactless card at many pay points.
Wake up the screen of your phone when you’re ready to pay and hover it near the pay terminal. Your phone will make noise and vibrate to confirm payment and visual confirmation of payment will be displayed on your screen.
You can also use your Google Pay account to pay for selected apps such as Airbnb, Kayak, and DoorDash, which is just as easy as that. Just select the checkout option for Google Pay, and you will be asked by Google Pay to confirm payment.

Using Google Pay on the web

The use of Google Pay on your smartphone is no longer restricted. Google is rolling out the payment system on the wider internet, and you’ll soon see “Buy with Google Pay” buttons on Chrome, Safari, and Firefox — no matter on which device you’re using them.
