Gloria Macarenko is a Canadian journalist from Prince Rupert currently working as the host of CBC Vancouver’s afternoon show On The Coast which she has worked on since January of 2018. There, she explores the day’s news and the local community at large.

Additionally, she was previously the host of CBC Television’s Our Vancouver, a current affairs show that focuses on the city’s distinct culture. There, she worked from the year 1989 to 2014. Later, she hosted the show, The Story from Here, a national Radio One program that brings Canadians lively and intriguing interviews from all over the country.

Macarenko previously hosted the B.C. Almanac on CBC Radio One, where she interacted with British Columbians through their conversations. Prior to that, Macarenko hosted the award-winning CBC News Vancouver newscast. She has been nominated twice for the Gemini Awards in Canada in the category  Best News Anchor category.

Gloria Macarenko is a senior leader on the news team and an award-winning journalist. She has won a Jack Webster Award for “Best News Reporting” and many RTNDA Awards, including The Peter Gzowski Award for Best National News Information Program. She has appeared as a guest host on The National and CBC News Now.

The relationship between Macarenko and British Columbia extends far beyond the newsroom. Arts Umbrella, the Dr. Peter Centre for HIV/AIDS, the BC Cancer Foundation, the Gordon Smith Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Canada, and the Prince Rupert Foundation are just a few of the organizations she volunteers and hosts for.

In 2018, she was made a member of the Order of Canada for her charity efforts in the community and contributions to Canadian broadcasting. The Order of Canada rewards significant services to the country and is one of the country’s highest civilian accolades.
