Findlay is a Canadian journalist who worked as a host and reporter for CBC Television’s investigative program, the fifth estate.
She has conducted dozens of investigations into everything from lottery fraud to child abuse to medical malpractice and police abuse throughout the years. For a year-long investigation of teen suicides in the northern Manitoba village of Cross Lake, she won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Host in an Information Series in 2018. Findlay began her career as a general assignment reporter with CBC News in Vancouver. After that, she worked for The Journal and The National, as well as a one-year stint at the Fifth Estate, where she assisted in the defense of David Milgard’s innocence and subsequent pardon.
She became the CBC’s London correspondent in 1991, covering much of Europe and Africa, including the former Yugoslavia and the Persian Gulf wars, as well as famine in Somalia and historic elections in South Africa in 1994.
Findlay joined ABC News as a Moscow reporter in 1994 and was promoted to Middle East correspondent in 1997, covering events in Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan, as well as Israel and the Palestinian territories.
In 2002, Findlay returned to Canada and co-hosted the investigative program on CBC News: Disclosure. She returned to the main program, the Fifth Estate, two years later. The CBC’s handling of allegations of abuse against former CBC Radio anchor Jian Ghomeshi, as well as complaints of systemic racism against the Thunder Bay Police Service, have been the subject of recent investigations.
Findlay is an Emmy Award nominee and was part of the ABC crew that earned a special Emmy in 2001 for their coverage of September 11th, in addition to the scores of honors and nominations she has received in Canada.
