David Shipley Biography

Shipley works as the Senior Executive Editor of Bloomberg Opinion, Bloomberg’s editorial and opinion brand featuring commentary from global thought leaders on financial, political and economic issues.

Shipley previously worked for The New York Times as Deputy Editorial Page Editor and Op-Ed Page Editor. He held many positions at The New York Times before taking over the Op-Ed page in 2003, including Op-Ed Page Editor, National Enterprise Editor, and Senior Editor for The New York Times Magazine.
From 1995 to 1997, Shipley worked as a Special Assistant to the President and Senior Presidential Speechwriter in the Clinton administration. He was previously Executive Editor of The New Republic in Washington, D.C. from 1993 to 1995, as well as a staff editor at The New York Times’ Op-Ed Page. He began his work at Simon and Schuster as an assistant editor.
Shipley is a co-author of “SEND: Why People Email So Badly and How to Fix It” with Will Schwalbe.
