Dan Merica Biography

Merica is a CNN Political Reporter based in Washington, D.C. He joined the network in 2011.  The Nevadan native is a proud graduate of Bentley University with a degree in global studies and American University with a master’s in journalism and public affairs. Since joining CNN, Merica has reported extensively on President Trump’s first year in office, including his effort to pass tax reform, his attempts to remake the federal government and his international trips to Europe and Asia. Before covering the White House, Merica covered the 2018 midterm elections and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign. He began covering Clinton in 2014 and reported on the historic fight for the Democratic nomination.

Prior to covering Clinton, Merica covered religion for CNN and wrote extensively about issues of faith and politics, including the rise of nonbelievers in the United States and the intersection of faith in the 2012 presidential campaign. Dan currently lives in Washington with his wife and enjoys Washington Nationals baseball and just about anything that gets him outdoors.
