Dan Ashley is an American anchor of ABC7 San Francisco Bay Area News. He anchors the news at 5, 6, 9 and 11 p.m. and has been reporting for the news station since 1995.
Dan has reported on a wide range of issues and events that affect our lives in his thirty years on television. As a journalist, Dan has covered stories across the Bay Area, the country, and the world. Dan reported from Poland on the “March of Living” with Holocaust survivors from the Bay Area, and before that, he reported basic training from Marine Corp at Camp Pendleton in San Diego. Other notable assignments include reporting live from New Hampshire and South Carolina for the state primaries and Iowa for the state caucus.

Dan began his television career at WTVD, the television station owned by ABC in Durham, North Carolina. He then worked for WCBD-TV, Charleston’s ABC affiliate, where he was an anchor for the weekend and later 6:00 and 11:00 p.m. anchor.
Dan came to ABC7 in 1995 as a weekday at 5:00 p.m. Anchor news and investigative reporter. He has received numerous industry awards, including the prestigious DuPont Columbia Award and the Edward R. Murrow Awards for journalism excellence, as well as numerous Emmy Awards for Best Newscast and Individual Reporting.
Many industry organizations, including Associated Press, United Press International, and the Atlantic City Press Club, recognize Dan’s distinguished work. He has also received awards from the chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in New Jersey and Atlanta.
As an active community member, Dan serves on boards of directors of many worthy organizations including The Bay Area Red Cross, The California Symphony, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), The Contra Costa County Crisis Center, The First Tee, among others. He also hosts the annual “Dan Ashley’s Friends of Camp Concord Golf Tournament,” which raises money to send under-served youth to the summer camp. Dan also created the “Rock the CASA Foundation” non-profit to raise money through an annual concert to benefit the CASA organization among other charities.
