Clive Davis (Full name- Clive Jay Davis) is an American five-time Grammy award-winning record producer, A&R executive, and music industry executive. Davis is an inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a non-performer.

Davis attended New York University (NYU) College of Arts and Science on a full scholarship where he graduated in 1953, magna cum laude in, with a degree in Political science and Phi Beta Kappa.
Davis was the Columbia Records’ president from 1967 to 1973. Until founding J Records, he was the founder and president of Arista Records from 1975 through 2000. Davis was the chairman and CEO of the RCA Music Group (including RCA Records, Arista Records, and J Records), chairman and CEO of J Records, and chairman and CEO of BMG North America in the period between 2002 and April 2008.
He was the one who employed Tony Orlando, a young recording artist, for Columbia in 1967, among other many signings that achieved superstar status. These were the likes of Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Janis Joplin, Laura Nyro, Santana, Chicago, Blood, Pink Floyd, Sweat & Tears, Loggins & Messina, Ace Of Base, Aerosmith, and Westlife. Whitney Houston’s and Barry Manilow’s success is also attributed to him.

Davis was born in a Jewish family to Herman Davis, an electrician, and salesman, and his mother was Florence Davis. His parents died when he was still a teenager leaving him an orphan and with no means. He, therefore, moved to Bayside, Queens, New York City, New York, to live with his married older sister.
