Hickey is an American journalist currently serving as a general assignment reporter for KCRA 3 News in the morning. He is a fifth-generation Nevadan and a proud graduate of the University of Nevada Reno with a degree in broadcast journalism. While most people are still in bed, Brian is gathering overnight news that will affect viewers for the day to come. During the winter months, you’ll find Brian hip-deep in the snow at Blue Canyon. In the hot summer months, Brian takes viewers to the fire lines to update progress on major wildland blazes that threaten homes, traffic, and air quality. He is also the host of the Emmy Award-winning series “Weekend Adventures with Brian Hickey.”
Prior to coming to Sacramento, Hickey was a reporter and anchor for KTVN in Reno. It was his first job after graduating. While at the University of Nevada Reno, he served two terms on the school senate and was a skier on the Wolf Pack Ski Team. Hickey followed his wife to Sacramento in 2003, where she completed her residency at the U.C. Davis Medical Center. Their plan was to “escape” back to Reno as soon as she finished. However, good jobs, friends, and all the reasons we love to call Sacramento persuaded the Hickeys to make this home.
He spends his free time with his family at the Folsom Lake to Lake Tahoe skiing, biking, hiking, swimming, kayaking, and wakeboarding.
