The Jamaican-born journalist moved to Montgomery County, Maryland, in the United States. She went to Seneca Valley High School, then graduated from American University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in journalism. She is currently pursuing her Master of Studies in Law Degree at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.
Ava-joye worked as a reporter and anchor at WRIC-TV in Richmond, Va before finding her way to WJZ. Burnet’s first job was as a reporter was in WUSA-TV in the nation’s capital behind the scenes, as well as at CTV-News in Prince George’s County, Md.
