Portillo is an American journalist working as a reporter and multi-media journalist for KOAA News 5 in Colorado Springs, CO. She is a multimedia journalist at 4, weekdays on KOAA News 5. She attended college at Temple University in Philadelphia, where she ate way too many cheesesteaks to count, but got her Bachelor’s Degree in journalism. Ashley reported for three years with our station, KRIS, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She covered everything from education, to crime, to local news and city government, some of her most memorable moments come from reporting during severe weather in the Coastal Bend.
During her time in Philadelphia, she covered Division-1 athletics at Temple University, interned for NBC Sports Philadelphia, and was a junior reporter for FOX 29. Also, she anchors Monday-Friday as a reporter on KRIS 6 News Sunrise and as a fill-in anchor on KRIS 6 News Sunrise Weekends.
She covered the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, a category four hurricane in 2017, and also covered Hurricane Hanna, a category one hurricane in July 2020. Most importantly, journalism for her means being a voice for the voiceless and educating the community about what’s going on.
In her free time, Ashley enjoys being outdoors, hitting the beach, or going on a run. She also enjoys meeting new people, so say ‘Hi’ if you see her!
