Koschany is an Austrian journalist from Linz, Austria currently working as an Executive Producer for W5 CTV News since July 2009.
In addition, he has held several other responsibilities such as a news magazine and documentary producer, news correspondent, and program manager.
He continues to deliver hands-on investigative journalism reports for the program. This includes a 2015 report on the wrongful prosecution of a Canadian citizen as an international arms smuggler by the Canada Border Services Agency. This report led to a multi-million dollar settlement and a Canadian Association of Journalists Award for W5.
In addition, he is also actively involved in CTV’s political journalism, serving as executive producer of the network’s elections coverage. Additionally, he produced annual editions of CTV’s interview special A Conversation with the Prime Minister. This is in addition to serving as executive producer of CTV’s acclaimed biographical documentary Triumph & Treachery: The Brian Mulroney Story.
Before joining the W5 team, he worked as a CTV National News’ Toronto Bureau Chief. During this period, his reports have exposed Agriculture Canada’s international collusion in developing high-nicotine strains of tobacco, failings in Canada’s witness protection program. His work has also revealed the failure of the Canadian government to live up to international treaties regarding the death penalty. In addition, he obtained exclusive interviews in the Guy Paul Morin wrongful conviction case.
Anton joins the station in 1993 as a Field Producer for W5. Additionally, he has had the privilege of spending 12 years with the CBC as a producer with The Fifth Estate.
His career began as an assignment reporter for an assignment editor and reporter at BCTV (the then-CTV affiliate) in Vancouver. There, he was able to create the first Canadian television labor beat and worked for Jack Webster, the legendary Vancouver journalist and talk radio/television host.
The year 2020 saw him honored with the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism from the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. This was in recognition of his exceptional body of work. In addition, with Anton at the helm, the W5 team has received several awards and honors. This includes the 2017 Canadian Screen Award for Best News or Information Program, the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism at the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards, the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism at the 2019 Canadian Screen Awards, and the 2016 Canadian Screen Award for Best News or Information Segment.
During his earlier tenure years as senior producer of W5, the program was honored with two Gemini Awards for Best News Information Series (2001 and 2005). In addition, it also received several Silver World Medals from the New York Festivals, as well as numerous RTNDA awards. The year 200 saw him being honored by the Genesis Awards for the documentary Cruel Cages, exposing the horrible conditions at roadside zoos in Canada.
