She played in college at Washington where she earned All American honors and went on to play in the women’s professional baseball league before she became a sports broadcaster.
She was born in Norfolk, Virginia. She grew up in a US Navy family and she attended multiple high schools, including Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California and Fort Mill High School in Fort Mill, South Carolina before she graduated from Corona del Sol High School in Temple, Arizona in 1990.

She later transferred to the University of Washington’s inaugural Washingtons Huskies softball team. Mentink was the first player to win both All PAC 10 and All American honors. She played for the Colorado Silver Bullets in 1995 and 1996 after graduating.
She began her career as a broadcaster with FOX Sports Northwest as an intern in1998 when she was a reporter covering the Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks. She remotely anchored the Detroit Sports Report for Fox Sports Detroit.
