He was born in Hebron Connecticut by U.S parents Karen Pollock and Al. Together with his family, they lived an hour and forty minutes drive away from Foxboro, Massachutes where he often drove with his father to watch New Englands Patriots home game.
He attended RHAM high school in his home town and later joined the University of Notre Dame where he began his college career.
In 2009, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected him in the first round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft and he was invited in spring training in 2010. He made his debut as a pinch hitter for Justin Upton on April 18, 2012. On April 23 they played against the Phillies where he collected his first career MLB hit, a single. He played a total of 31 games that season batting .247 with two home runs and eight RBIs
